What is Exchange rate markup?

In short

An exchange rate markup is the extra a provider adds on top of the mid-market rate when you convert money.

An exchange rate markup is the gap between the mid-market rate and the rate a provider actually gives you, so a wider markup means more of your money stays with the provider. The gaps here are far apart: ABN AMRO Zakelijk adds 0.85% to 1.35% on foreign transfers and Airwallex adds 0.5% to 1%, while ActivoBank adds 0% and the Advcash (Advanced Cash) Card adds 0%. Ajman Bank Neo has the widest gap of the group at 2%, which matters most on frequent conversions.
