What is Headline rate?

In short

The interest figure a provider puts first, and the one most readers compare on.

The headline rate is the top interest figure a provider advertises, usually placed at the top of its savings page. It is the easiest figure to compare, and it is not always what you earn across a whole balance or over a full year. ABB Bank lists a headline rate of 10.5%, while ABA Bank publishes a headline rate that runs 0% to 1.25%. Put the top figure next to the conditions printed on the same page before you commit.
